We have had the craziest fun filled past few weeks! A visit from family (love when this happens!) a trip to Disney!, celebrating Christmas and battling viral illnesses. Given the nature of the past few weeks I will just leave you with a few pics until I get settled!
This year, like last, we opted to forgo exchanging gifts with friends and family and rather spend money to buy for those less fortunate. It was money so well better spent and I'm glad to have made this a yearly tradition.
This year our family chose to donate to the Children's Crisis center of Phoenix. It is a 45 bed shelter that serves as a temporary home for kids birth to 16 years old. For whatever reason these kids are placed there until a more permanent situation is found for them. Most kids stay anywhere from 3 weeks til 2 months. My heart aches at the thought that they have no home....and worse yet during the holiday.
The shelter was able to supply a wish list for the kids during the holiday and We had so much fun buying up toys r us!
I will continue to do this every year and continue to encourage the spirit of giving to my 2 girls. They are quickly learning how blessed they are, to continue thanking God for their blessings, as well as how to give back to those less fortunate.
A few months ago I was banging my head against a wall trying to teach Brooklyn her letters. Ask any of my friends, I was discouraged at MY ability to teach them. No more then maybe a month ago she struggled with any letters beyond her name. But does she have her name perfect!!!
When we sat down to do her homework today she produced this....
Conpletely Unprovoked and completely independently she managed to write all her letters! in school she's only learning the letter M. So we went from feeling a few steps behind to a few steps ahead. I can't tell you how AMAZED I am on her progress over the last few months! It's crazy how kids their age just one day pick up new skills and more knowledge. I love her teacher at school for all the positive encouragement she gives her how fun she's made learning. In January she will start school 5 days a week. (Side note: this is the first time in 4.5 years I will be at home on a regular basis without a child to keep me company... CRAZY! )
